Pier Giorgio contracted polio, likely from the sick whom he served, and died at the young age of 24. Pope St. John Paul II, who beatified him in 1990, called him “The Man of the Eight Beatitudes,” a title that speaks to his complete embodiment of the Gospel. Canonized on September 7, 2025, by Pope Leo XIV at St. Peter’s Square in Rome, he is now universally venerated in the Church as “The Man of the Beatitudes”—a reminder that holiness can flourish in ordinary life.
